These are unprecedented times, and it’s inspiring to see communities rising to the challenge. However, not everyone has the resources to “shelter in place” especially the millions of people in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Living paycheck to paycheck is hard when millions of businesses around the nation are closing down indefinitely, and hourly workers (including those dependent upon tips) are the hardest hit. In particular, families with kids whose primary meals happen at school are especially vulnerable when those schools shut down.

Call to Action: Ask Congress to include nonprofits in COVID-19 related stimulus legislation
Senate leaders are already working on another stimulus package after the passage of the Family First Coronavirus Response Act this week, with a focus on relief for small businesses.
BREAKING NEWS: Senator Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) draft COVID-19 legislation contains a temporary universal charitable deduction provision (for gifts up to $300). Also, the bill appears to suspend the 50% adjusted gross income limitation for individuals’ charitable contributions and makes some corporate changes as well. Those provisions would be limited to the year 2020.

COVID-19 Update: House and Senate Action Regarding Coronavirus Response Bills
UPDATE 3/27/2020
A historic $2 trillion economic recovery package was sent to the president’s desk for signature after House lawmakers passed the bipartisan bill Friday afternoon.
The legislation, known as the CARES Act, is the third aid package from Congress during the growing coronavirus pandemic.
This relief package includes direct payments to Americans, an aggressive expansion of unemployment insurance and billions in business loans and aid to hospitals.
