North Country:
Adirondack Foundation, along with some private family foundations and donor advisors, established a Special and Urgent Needs Fund (SUN) to help be a responsive grantmaker. The SUN Fund’s purpose is to assist organizations in the Adirondack region of New York to address short-term needs where a relatively small grant can assist with unanticipated, unbudgeted gaps in funding or to take advantage of a special opportunity.
The Northern New York Community Foundation has created a response fund to help partner agencies and other nonprofit organizations in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties
Central New York:
The Central New York Community Foundation and United Way of Central New York‘s Community Support Fund will provide flexible resources to organizations in Central New York working with communities who are disproportionately impacted by Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the economic consequences of this outbreak.
Central New York Affiliate Funds: Affiliates of the Central New York Community Foundation are targeting Oswego, Onondaga, Madison, and Cayuga Counties.
The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties and United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area have joined together to create a single community-wide fund to support organizations responding to human services needs in Herkimer and Oneida counties resulting from the impact of the COVID-19 global pandemic. The Mohawk Valley COVID-19 Response Fund is designed to rapidly deploy flexible resources in the form of grants on a rolling basis as fundraising continues throughout the crisis, ensuring resources can quickly and nimbly meet evolving needs in real-time.
The Cortland Cares COVID Fund is a joint partnership between United Way for Cortland County and the Cortland Community Foundation and focuses on Cortland County
Western/Southwest New York
The United Ways and Community Foundations of Chautauqua County are working with direct service organizations and government agencies to identify critical needs and resource gaps and the best approach to disseminate emergency funds with the appropriate sense of urgency. Awards will complement the work of government and expand local capacity to address all aspects of the outbreak as efficiently as possible. Learn More Here
Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation is engaging in a collaborative effort with other area funding agencies and government agencies to deliver a coordinated philanthropic response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Cattaraugus County and to address the varied challenges brought forth by the outbreak. Nearly twenty local philanthropic organizations have come together to announce the Western New York COVID-19 Community Response Fund in partnership with the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County. The Fund will be used to address the community’s most immediate needs in the eight counties of Western New York, with an initial focus on the areas of health, human services, food, childcare and to address the needs of front-line responders. Greater Capital Region:
The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region, and United Way of the Greater Capital Region’s Capital Region Community COVID-19 Response Fund will help fund frontline human services organizations that have deep roots in the community and strong experience working with vulnerable populations. The first phase of rapid-response grants will help meet basic needs and help increase resiliency in affected communities. The Fund expects to move an initial round of grants within the next few weeks.
Finger Lakes:
The United Way of Greater Rochester and
Rochester Area Community Foundation’s Community Crisis Fund:
The first phase of funding will be used to meet the immediate needs of front line human services organizations that have strong experience serving low-income and vulnerable residents.
The grants will address the economic impact of reduced and lost work due to the broader COVID-19 outbreak and the immediate needs of economically vulnerable populations caused by COVID-19 related closures (access to food, shelter, clothing, childcare, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, etc.), support nonprofits that are disproportionally impacted by the pandemic, provide community and organizational recovery, and future community emergencies.
Hudson Valley:
The Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan is launching the CFOS COVID-19 Response Fund to address immediate and longer-term needs of residents in Orange and Sullivan counties.
This fund will issue grants to established nonprofit organizations that provide front-line services to our most vulnerable populations – food for our neediest families and essentials, such as prescription drug deliveries to homebound senior citizens and people with compromised immune systems.
The Columbia County COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund has been established by the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, to focus on Columbia County.
The Dutchess Responds Fund is a partnership between Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley, the Dutchess County Government, and the Dyson Foundation, focusing on immediate needs in Dutchess CountyLearn More
Ulster County is partnering with United Way of Ulster County and many other area organizations and businesses to mobilize food and services for Ulster County – Project Resilience
Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley is establishing the Putnam Covid-19 Response Fund. With your support, this fund will provide immediate critical resources to nonprofit partners addressing basic needs in Putnam County.
The Westchester Community Foundation has announced the Westchester COVID-19 Response Fund to deploy resources to established, frontline community organizations meeting the basic needs of local residents in the wake of this global pandemic. The Fund’s purpose is to minimize social and economic consequences going forward, and its resources will be directed to organizations serving high-need, vulnerable populations. The Fund is designed to be flexible in its focus, nimble in its action, and to complement other resources at the local, state, and national levels. This fund is in addition to a $1 million contribution by RXR Realty to the RXR Building Community Fund at the Westchester Community Foundation.
Southern Tier
The Community Foundation of Tompkins County’s COVID-19 Response Fund will provide flexible resources to basic needs nonprofit organizations in our region working with our communities to address how they and their participants are impacted by this crisis.
The United Way of Tompkins County is responding to an increase in local needs due to COVID-19 by expanding and expediting our existing funding processes. As always, 100% of donations given through United Way of Tompkins County (UWTC) will continue to go directly to agency programs and services. Learn More Here
COVID-19 Unity Response Fund: A funders collaborative that includes the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Corning Incorporated Foundation, Triangle Fund in honor of Amo Houghton, United Way of the Southern Tier, and local donors. Funding will be provided to organizations located and operating in Chemung, Schuyler and/or Steuben counties.
COVID-19 Community Response Fund: A funder collaborative made up of United Way of Broome County, Community Foundation for South Central New York, and local foundations, focused on Broome County
The CFSCNY COVID-19 Response Fund, housed by the Community Foundation for South Central New York, will support organizations providing essential services to the individuals and communities in the most rural counties served by the Foundation; Chenango, Delaware, Otsego, and Tioga.
Greater NYC Area
Brooklyn Community Foundation has created a COVID-19 Response Fund to provide immediate and longer-term resources to vulnerable residents across our borough Learn More Here
The NYC COVID-19 Response & Impact Fund was created to aid nonprofit service providers struggling with the health and economic effects of the coronavirus. It will give grants and loans to NYC-based nonprofits that are trying to meet the new and urgent needs that are hitting the city. Priority will be given to nonprofits addressing essential healthcare and food insecurity as well as arts and culture, because New York is the cultural capital of the nation.
Trinity Church’s COVID-19 Emergency Response Grants

The Robin Hood Foundation has created a relief fund focused on helping New Yorkers by supporting the nonprofit organizations on the frontlines. Learn more here

SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loans offer up to $2 million in assistance for small businesses, including nonprofits.
