Grantmakers Must Put Equity at the Forefront of the Coronavirus Response

NY Funders Alliance Executive Director Corinne L. Ribble signs a joint statement on keeping equity in the forefront of our coronavirus response.

In a letter published yesterday in The Chronicle of Philanthropy, Forum President & CEO David Biemesderfer spoke for a unified voice of regional and national philanthropy serving organizations urging funders to continue to be particularly attentive to considerations of equity as they respond to the coronavirus outbreak. Biemesderfer submitted the letter on behalf of a large group of Forum members who issued a joint PSO statement today expressing the same message.

Philanthropy is well positioned to play a crucial role in responding to this public health challenge because we are frequently on the front lines in responding to community crises, are trusted in communities, and invest in long-term solutions. As philanthropy leaders who come together under the umbrella of United Philanthropy Forum…we are committed to helping our sector respond effectively to the coronavirus. In doing so, we are particularly attentive to ways in which this outbreak may exacerbate inequities.

The statement includes a list of action steps for all funders to consider in order to address the COVID-19 outbreak in ways that include deep considerations of equity.
