  1. Every year the NY Funders Alliance holds a holiday event to gather funders and provide space to reflect on the passing year while looking ahead together. We are thrilled to extend an invitation to this year’s holiday luncheon on December 12th in Rochester. This year we will feature Susan Taylor Batten, President & CEO of ABFE who will share her thoughts on what is driving persistent racial inequity in the country, how leading foundations are addressing the issue, and implications for the region.   2. The results of the Presidential Election has left many of our colleagues with questions regarding the future of the nonprofit, philanthropic, and charitable sectors. The Kresge Foundation faces this question head on in a post called What Does Philanthropy Do Next? Read the Full Story Here.
  3. It has become clear that white, middle-class Americans have felt ignored and underrepresented in politics for decades, and many pundits point to their collective action as what tipped the scales in this election. Does philanthropy ignore this same sector of Americans? As part of a $20 million commitment to support veterans groups through 2019, Walmart’s Greenlight a Vet campaign made a $5 million donation to the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) based out of Syracuse University to support the AmericaServes program.   5. One of the outcomes of the election was that it motivated many people to increase their civic engagement. How do nonprofits tap into these groups of motivated potential-volunteers? More and more, millennials are raising their hand and volunteering their time at organizations in their communities.
