1. The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation teamed up with the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo and the Rochester Area Community Foundation to release reports evaluating the access to, quality of, and participation in youth sports in the Western New York and the Greater Rochester/Finger Lakes regions. 2. Paul Hogan, Executive Vice President of the John R. Oishei Foundation (a NY Funders Alliance member) gave a keynote address at the Niagara Community Partnership Project event earlier in June called Coalitions of the Willing: Who’s Willing, and Why?. A survey conducted by Fiduciary Trust Company and Associated Grant Makers highlights while many Endowments and Foundations (E&Fs) have had to increase fundraising or reduce charitable activities as a result of the low interest rate environment, a significant number of them may be overlooking important, additional considerations. 4. It’s the best and worst of times for decision makers. Swelling stockpiles of data, advanced analytics, and intelligent algorithms are providing organizations with powerful new inputs and methods for making all manner of decisions. 5. Many worry about the rising influence of billionaire philanthropists — a tiny sliver of the population which is already hugely powerful is able to exercise even more influence.
