  1. Every recent president has created a private foundation after leaving the office. When President Obama was preparing to step down, he tapped David Simas to runt he new Obama Foundation. In a recent interview with NPR, Simas expanded on the Foundation’s focus area:  improving civic health. Read the Full Story Here.

Earlier this week, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced a new initiative, the National Public Safety Partnership, providing federal resources to help cities combat violence and boost public safety.   5. By 2050, the number of Americans ages 65 or older will nearly double, growing from about 48 million to 88 million. Those who need the most assistance, the population of people over 85, is on track to triple, from 6.2 million to nearly over 18 million over the same time period. Here’s the problem: the system that supports these Americans rests on the backs of direct-care workers and there simply aren’t enough of them to meet the current needs, much less double or triple the number of people who need care today.
