Friday Rewind – 10/7/16

The Friday Rewind offers a snapshot of PhilanthroNews —  that means news stories, articles, events of note, or information updates — from around our network and throughout the broad world of philanthropy. Whether you take a quick skim of the material or a deep dive through each item we hope to help inform your work and inspire your thinking.

  1. Fidelity Charitable released a report entitled The Future of Philanthropy this week. The report provides insight into the priorities of individual donors and offers a glimpse of where emerging generations may steer philanthropy in the future. Check out the full report here.

  3. The IUPUI Women’s Philanthropy Institute at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy released a report on Giving to Women and Girls — Who Gives, and Why?. This key resource provides insights into a philanthropic category that has been historically understudied. Their report highlights new data and helps give further understanding to exactly who gives to women’s and girls’ causes and what their motivations for support are. Read the full report here.
  4. PATS: Philanthropy Around The State…. The John R. Oishei Foundation gift brings Lockport YMCA to 99% of its capital campaign goal (Read Full Story Here) … Central New York Community Foundation gives grant to plant seed for major expansion of the Rescue Mission’s Food Services Center (Read Full Story Here) …  New York Health Foundation grant supports research on effects of children’s consumption of high-calorie drinks (Read Full Story Here) … Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo supports free program for families that explores ghosts of Niagara County (Read Full Story Here).
  5. Fernando Chang-Muy will visit Buffalo on October 19th, 2016 for a grantmaker/grantseeker event entitled Learning Together: How Grantmakers and Grantseekers Can Collaborate for Better Results. This program is presented in partnership of the NY Funders Alliance and the Western New York chapter of AFP and is generously sponsored by the John R.
