Friday Rewind

Friday Rewind – 12/23/2016

The Friday Rewind offers a snapshot of PhilanthroNews —  that means news stories, articles, events of note, or information updates — from around our network and throughout the broad world of philanthropy. Whether you take a quick skim of the material or a deep dive through each item we hope to help inform your work and inspire your thinking.

  1. The John S. And James L. Knight Foundation has issued a revised Statement of Strategy that outlines the foundation’s core beliefs and vision for its grantmaking in a rapidly changing world they label an “age of disruption.” Read the Full Story Here.
  2. Charitable giving to nonprofit hospitals and healthcare systems in North America remained relatively steady (dropped only three-quarters of 1 percent) in 2015 and topped $11 billion. Read the Full Story Here.
  3. Challenge grants can be risky, but a “challenge gift” paid off for the University of Wisconsin-Madison and resulted in a large influx of both new donors and new cash. Read the Full Story Here.
  4. Leadership isn’t like history or physics. You don’t learn it from books. You learn to lead by leading. You do things, you try things, and some of them work and some of them don’t. That’s experience, and it’s a start, but experience alone won’t make you a better leader. Read the Full Story Here.
  5. President-Elect Trump has been meeting with his advisors and other experts to discuss the creation of a nonprofit group that would support his political agenda, similar to one created by President Barack Obama’s first campaign manager. Read the Full Story Here.
