2020 Census Funders: Learning from National Initiatives
February 14, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
The 2020 Census Funders Group is an ad hoc group of Philanthropy New York. It includes regional philanthropic leaders working in partnership with national and local nonprofit, government and business leaders – as well as the NY Funders Alliance and its members. There are over a dozen foundations already associated with this group, but its meetings are open to all who are interested in learning about progress toward a full and fair 2020 Census count.
This will be the first meeting of the New York funders group for 2018 and the fourth for the group since it first began to form last summer.
This gathering will give funders of all programmatic interests an opportunity to hear from colleagues about local efforts to ensure a full and fair count, as well as the initiatives that are taking place in other locations around the country that might serve as learning opportunities. We will also receive a briefing from Geri Mannion, Program Director, U.S. Democracy & Special Operations Fund, Carnegie Corporation of New York, who will discuss two separate census/funders initiatives, which work together. One is the Democracy Funders’ Census Initiative, which Bauman Foundation oversees and helps staff; and the second is the FCCP’s funder census initiative, Democracy Funders Collaborative Census Subgroup, which helps to educate funders around the country on why the census should be among your priorities. This includes outreach to state and local foundations.
