Philanthro News

Advocate. Connect. Strengthen. Mobilize.

Over the coming weeks and months, as the work of our members and the larger philanthropic community progresses, NY Funders Alliance will respond in four key areas of support for the sector and our members: Advocate, Connect, Strengthen, and Mobilize.

ADVOCATE

NY Funders Alliance is committed to improving effective philanthropic practice in New York by leveraging philanthropy’s collective, state-wide voice to advocate for strengthening the philanthropic and nonprofit sector to address the pandemic and maintain the health of communities we serve.

Federal

Nonprofit Relief :As New York State and the rest of country started to push pause in response to the coronavirus pandemic, NY Funders Alliance board and staff representatives were in Washington, DC, for Foundations on the Hill advocating for the philanthropic sector and our nonprofit partners.

We continue to advocate for nonprofits to be included in all federal and state economic relief/stimulus funding along with keeping you informed on the latest federal response.

New York State

Protect Self-Insuring Nonprofits:NY Funders Alliance, in partnership with NYCON, signed on to a letter urging Governor Cuomo save self-insuring nonprofits from massive unemployment benefit increases due to COVID-19.

CONNECT

As your hub for grantmakers in New York we intend to continue to identify emerging opportunities to learn and collaborate across our network.

COVID Response Fund Peer Network: We started a COVID Response Fund peer learning group as the first wave of grantmakers stood up funds. We invite any grantmaker in New York coordinating a response fund to join the conversation. Connect with Emily Alber Chase to learn more.

All Member Calls: Beginning with our first call for NY Funders Alliance members this week, we will be hosting periodic calls during which grantmakers can share what they are doing and surface questions to which NY Funders can help respond.

Join us on Friday, April 3rd to hear from three grantmakers: a family foundation, community foundation and corporate giving program on how they are responding to the pandemic in their regions.

If your organization is responding to COVID-19, please let us know so we can link you into current and emerging resources and peer learning opportunities.

STRENGTHEN

We will continue to share best practices, examples of funders responses and strategies along this journey.

Equity: NY Funders Alliance has signed on to a national letter committing to Keeping Equity at the Center for COVID-19 response and sharing this with our members.

COVID-19 Grantmaker Resources: It is critical during emergencies that factual and credible information is shared with the public, nonprofits, funders, etc.  You can find our regularly updated grantmaker COVID-19 resource webpage here.

MOBILIZE

Philanthropy is critical to our response today and will be part of the rebuilding and recovery in New York tomorrow.
