Friday Rewind – 5/5/17

The Friday Rewind offers a snapshot of PhilanthroNews —  that means news stories, articles, events of note, or information updates — from around our network and throughout the broad world of philanthropy. Whether you take a quick skim of the material or a deep dive through each item we hope to help inform your work and inspire your thinking.

Read the Full Story Here. For your reference, you can also read statements from the Chronicle on Philanthropy (here), Independent Sector (here), and the Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers (here).
  2. For centuries, leading businesses have earmarked portions of their revenue to go to charitable causes. 3. These are uncertain times for the future of health in the U.S. The context continues to shift with amendments to the original failed American Health Care Act (AHCA) bill under constant discussion, and yesterday’s vote in the House of Representatives. Staff at FSG have been considering what all of this means for foundations working on U.S. Health. Read the Full Story Here.
  4. The asset management industry has a diversity problem. Just 1.1 percent of the $71 trillion in private equity, mutual, hedge and real-estate funds is managed by firms that are owned by women or minorities, according to a new study from Harvard and Bella Research. Read the Full Story Here.
  5. This week the NYS Health Foundation (a NY Funders Alliance member) released a report analyzing the New York State Department of Health’s current funding for total population health. It also makes recommendations for how the State and its residents can gain more value for funds spent on achieving the Prevention Agenda, New York State’s well-defined strategy for pursuing population health. Read the Full Story and Download the Report Here.
