You’re invited to join your colleagues and the Alliance for Justice (AFJ) for a workshop geared towards foundation staff and trustees on how the philanthropic sector can effectively engage in advocacy efforts and become more confident advocates. AFJ will begin by discussing why advocacy is important, establishing the distinction between advocacy and lobbying, and helping foundations fully understand the legal parameters for both. Next, they will look at the spectrum of strategies for foundation’s advocacy efforts and discuss how staff and trustees can be effective partners in this work. To help foundations identify next steps and move their work forward, AFJ will provide the group with best practices and examples of other foundation’s strategies and policies.

Attendees will leave with:

  • Definitions and tools for advocacy and lobbying
  • A clear understanding of advocacy and lobbying legal parameters for foundations
  • A partnership roadmap for staff and trustees to pursue a public policy agenda
